The peer support of those who understand what you struggle with will be invaluable to you.3. Stop making excuses for, or ‘rescuing’ your partner. Unfortunately, the only way any real change can take place in the addict (or you), is by getting out of the system you have created together. Typically in a relationship with this dynamic, your partner uses and messes up, and you bail him or her out. They suffer from withdrawal symptoms when they are not high on alcohol, and this is a cycle that leads to drinking on a daily basis. Spouses of such people will definitely find it hard to cope with such a partner. The mental processes of such a person become hindered and the personality of such a person is affected negatively. Alcoholism can lead to violence in marriage, which can be verbal, physical or even sexual. If this does not happen, the alcoholic is bound to deteriorate in their sexual performance and this could lead to divorce because nobody wants to stay in a union where there is no physical intimacy. This means, keeping an eye on who they’re hanging out with as well as getting to know the parents of other children they associate with. For a lot of single parents and parents who are both working full time jobs, spending quality time with their children is difficult. Especially with economic times becoming more difficult, increasing number of Americans will have to take on second and even third jobs. But what will this mean for children? Drug use is analogous to bad habits in that they are like a comfortable bed: easy to get into but hard to get out of. As parents, there is not a lot you can do about having to work two jobs.
